  • Knots for Fly Fishing

    You’ve traveled 45 minutes to fish this water. You;ve caught a couple of fish but you’ve stepped on your leader, abraded it on the rocks, and broken off several flies. Your leader is a mess. You could rebuild it if only you could remember the knots. Like it or not, you're done fishing. You need two knots in order to go fly fishing. This two hour class will teach you those plus a couple of others and give you plenty of practice on each one. You will be a knot tying expert. During the forty plus years that instructor Mike has been teaching fly fishing skills, teaching knot tying has always been among his favorite skill sets.

    This class will introduce you to the fundamentals of kayaking in a comfortable setting. You will learn about paddling techniques and get the changes to practice these new skills on beautiful Square Lake in Stillwater. This class is a great way to build a new skill set or improve upon what you already know about kayaking. Come along for the fun and meet new people who enjoy the outdoors. All you need to do is dress comfortably and wear shoes that can get wet. SilverFinn Kayaking provides kayaks, paddles and all necessary safety equipment.

  • Lumberjack Days Pickleball Tournament

    Stillwater Area Public Schools Community Education Department is hosting the Lumberjack Days Pickleball Tournament Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st, 2024 at Stillwater Area High School in the Pony Activity Center which features 10 indoor pickleball courts. Location: NEW THIS YEAR - OUTDOOR TOURNAMENT! We will be playing at the 8 courts at Northland Park in Stillwater. Backup - Stillwater Area High School Pony Activity Center - 10 indoor courts, hardwood floors. 5701 Stillwater Boulevard North, Stillwater, MN 55082. Enter Door 11W by the Pony Stadium entryway. Dates: Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st, 2024 Cost: $35 per player for the first event, $5 for each additional event, tournament t-shirt included in fee. Tournament Format: The tournament format will consist of a minimum of 3 pool play games, followed by single elimination tournament play based on pool ranking. All games are officiated by the individuals playing and must make their own calls. This is an unsanctioned tournament. Ball: Franklin X-40 - (if moved indoors we will use the Onix Fuse indoor balls) Men’s and Women’s will play Saturday, July 20th. Depending on the number of teams registered for men’s and women’s play will dictate the start times of each tournament. The goal is to maximize court time for pool play for each level and gender will be dictated based on registrations. Schedules will be posted by July 17th. Mixed Doubles will play Sunday, July 21st. Depending on the number of teams registered for mixed play will dictate the start times of each tournament. The goal is to maximize court time for pool play for each level and will be dictated based on registrations Competition in mixed, men’s and women’s will be offered at 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 divisions, As well as 50+ divisions in mixed. Teams are self-ranked according to USAPA criteria. Tournament Director has the right to reclassify and combine divisions if necessary due to number of teams. Registration: Registration opens March 4th, 2024, and will close July 12, 2024 @10 AM or until full. Each player needs to have their own separate online registration and payment. The first registration should be $35. You can register for the second event by going into the new event and selecting the $5 registration fee. There is a $5 processing fee if cancelled before July 12th, 2024. There is no refund after July 12th, 2024 as t-shirts and brackets will be created and modifications to the brackets must be made.     Serve freshly baked bread in less than 1 hour. Whether for a memorable weekend breakfast, brunch, or teatime, to accompany a salad/soup, or for another occasion, hot-from-your-oven breads are wonderful. Muffins (and their larger-sized quick breads) may be sweet and savory. Adjust the baking time (less than 30 minutes) for muffins to less than 1 hour for quick breads, and a single recipe yields both! We’ll feature remarkable recipes to taste in class and take home PLUS tips, techniques, and equipment to ensure success every time. Recipes include Blueberry, Cinnamon Crunch, Bran-Corn, Dried Cherry, Fresh Ginger, Golden Raisin, Maple Sour Cream, Slice Fresh Lemon plus Flavored Butters, and a variety of Glazes/Toppings. Popovers are perfect served alone or insert your favorite filling to create a special meal. And, of course, expect to learn all the valuable tips to ensure success every time! A $13 supply fee due to the instructor at the beginning of class.

    Private Pickleball Lessons

    Do you want to improve your pickleball game? Individual or small group private lessons will help your skills, strategy and rating level. During the one-hour session, participants will be coached through skill repetition and drills specific to improve your pickleball game. Prior to registering for small group training, please make sure you have discussed specific training dates and times that would work best for your group. Once all individual(s) have registered for the private lessons, you will be contacted by the instructor to choose some dates and times for the lessons.     When it comes to actual sushi that is made with sushi grade raw fish such as salmon or tuna wrapped in rice and seaweed, the sushi tolerance spectrum runs from a very strong “YES” or a very strong “NO” with little wiggle room in between. Enter California “sushi” Rolls that overwhelmingly turn the strong “NO’s” into strong yeses! Join Tess as she walks you through how to make a variety of the most marvelous California rolls that will make you wonder why you haven’t tried to make your own before. California “sushi” roll combinations are only limited by your imagination! Make them vegetarian, with or without seaweed, spicy or not, it is totally up to you. Learn the skill of creating delicious seasoned sushi rice, spicy mayo, and how to stuff, wrap/shape the rolls, with wonderful filling ingredients. One of these fillings is a “crab” salad that will be created using crab sticks. Make it a date night or family night as you create lasting memories in your kitchen! Ingredients/supplies if you wish to order or shop early for some ingredients: Sushi rice, sushi nori/seaweed sheets, toasted sesame oil, (Japanese) rice vinegar.
