Lifeguard Training Course
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This blended-learning format includes mandatory online course work prior to instructor-led pool and classroom time. Participants must be able to perform the pre-course skills test. Students should be prepared to swim each day unless otherwise directed by the instructor. Bring a lunch, water bottle, swimsuit and towel.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15; successfully pass the pre-course skills test, which will be held the first night of class.
Pre-Course Swim test includes: 1) Swim 300 yards continuously; 2) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface dive 7-10 feet; retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. 3) Treading water for 2 minutes.
