    Lifeguard Training Course

    The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This blended-learning format includes mandatory online course work prior to instructor-led pool and classroom time. Participants must be able to perform the pre-course skills test. Students should be prepared to swim each day unless otherwise directed by the instructor. Bring a lunch, water bottle, swimsuit and towel. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15; successfully pass the pre-course skills test, which will be held the first night of class. Pre-Course Swim test includes: 1) Swim 300 yards continuously; 2) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface dive 7-10 feet; retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. 3) Treading water for 2 minutes.

    Water Safety Instructor Course

    This course provides instructor candidates the training needed to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. Students develop their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to teach swim lessons and how to evaluate participants' progress. The blended-learning format includes mandatory online coursework prior to instructor-led pool and classroom time. Students should bring a lunch, snack, water bottle, swim suit and towel each day. Attendance at all classes is required. Prerequisites: Minimum of age 16 by end of course; successful completion of pre-course session consisting of tests of water safety and swimming skills and knowledge.
