STEM Sampler 1: States of Matter, Electromagnet and Flight 101

Community Ed Online Courses / Classes for Youth -
Spring/Summer 2020

Have fun with three STEM topics... chemistry, aerospace and electricity. First, your budding scientist will explore the three most common States of Matter in our environment: a solid, liquid and a gas. As your child conducts the three fun and exciting experiments from the Activity Guide, they will be learning that: a solid has a stable shape, a liquid will take on the shape of the container holding it, and that a has no shape

Next, discover the four forces that allow planes and rockets to fly: thrust, drag, weight and list as you experiment with these forces with fun, hands-on experiments and activities while using a paratrooper to investigate drag, a disk launcher to explore lift and more. Then, you will build and test an electromagnet and learn how the magnetic field was first discovered.

Kits are best for students 8+ with direct adult help, or 12+ with adult supervision.

Kits will be available to be picked up at our Central Services Building on Tuesdays between 9:00 am and noon and on and Fridays between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. A confirmation email will be sent with directions to set-up a time to pick up your kit.
